Programme Structure

​The PGDM programme is built in 2 stages. In the first seven months are focused on building the foundation and in depth understanding of the shipping & logistics industry and also training the students to excel in computing and communication skills. The next five months, focus will be to impart hands-on training in the real world with internship & a thesis

The learning and teaching will consist of a variety of elements such as lectures, tutorials, workshops, animated/non-animated video, practical work, seminars and trips. This module covers the understanding of the ship and its operations. This include the understanding of the basics of the ship design, maritime terminology, various types of contracts and the liability of the ship owners. The students will get a thorough understanding of voyage related expenses and will learn the concepts of voyage estimation to calculate the protability of the voyage.

Ship chartering

This module covers the chartering aspect of ship business whereby the students will get familiarized with the hiring of the vessel as well as fixing of the cargo. this shall include but not restricted to charter party, basics of sea economics, knowledge of hire as well as freight calculation and assessment of laytime.

This module covers an introduction to port agency operations and provides an in-depth look at topics such as port practices, port operations, cargo handled by Indian and foreign ports, Custom house practices. Further to that, students will learn the jobs and responsibilities of a port agent and calculation of port related costs

This module will look at the administration and operation of ships. It will also cover the function of the operations department within a shipping company, the crew management and the main divisions within Human Resource Management (HRM). You will also get an introduction to the techniques of HRM practice, whilst also looking at the employee involvement and the employee satisfaction, motivation and attitudes to work survey.

This module covers the understanding of the ship and its operations. Apart from classroom training, students might also have to do project work, dissertations, participate in industry visits, or gain practical know-how through internships.

  • Explore commodities transported, ship types and changes in trade routes due to globalization.

  • Discuss the characteristics of different port and terminal types.

Maritime logistics & Law

This module will look at the full spectrum of maritime logistics and look at topics such as trade offs and logistics, distribution channels, modal choice & inter-modal systems and port management. It will go on to cover bench-marking in logistics and reverse and green logistics. Further to that students will be given an overview on International maritime law which includes Commercial and trade law. This will be supported by arbitration practices, initiation as well as the ceasing of the same

Dissertation & Internship

Dissertation & internship

After successful completion of the First semester students will then proceed for their internship with different companies. The internship will be carried out in following sectors

  • Upon successful completion of this module the student will be able to

  • Discuss the role of shipping in the wider logistics and supply chain.

  • Explore port management and operations

  • Understand and implement Charter Party Clauses

  • Understand the principle of Merchant Shipping Act

  • Apply the UNCLOS in daily practice

 

Along with the internship, candidates will be engaged in dissertation. Dissertation provides our candidate to focus on an area of maritime operation of personal interest and explore it in depth. It gives candidate the opportunity to undertake a major, extended piece of research with the aim of improving the understanding of a topic. The final work will be 10.000 to 12.000 words and candidate will receive the necessary guidance and support throughout the dissertation writing process from Programme Leader and a Supervisor, who will be appointed for that purpose.

Admission process

For the 2021 Graduate Diploma programme intake, there are 30 seats in total.

 

IMBA follows a rounds-based rolling admissions policy. This means that the applicants who apply in an earlier round have a higher likelihood of being accepted into the programme of their choice. It also means that the applications will be closed as soon as all seats are filled. The admission process comprises of two steps:

 

Step 1:

To apply online, visit the portal www.imbaeducation.com or http://quantumuniversity.edu.in/ To apply offline, you may download the Application Form from the IMBA website or Quantum University website or collect it from any of the IMBA admissions offices or Quantum University offices. The form must be completed and submitted at the IMBA or Quantum University admission offices, via courier or in-person.

 

All necessary documents as listed on the application form, must be submitted at the time of applying, whether online or offline. Candidates who have successfully completed or are in the final semester of full time undergraduate degree programme, are eligible to apply for the Graduate Diploma programmes at IMBA.

STEP 2: Personal Interview (PI).

 

The personal interview is intended to assess the applicants intention to pursue higher studies at our academy, their ability to perform successfully and match our required standards.

 

Outstation students may appear for PI through online mode via Skype, or through the offline mode at the IMBA academy in Dehradun.

 

Once all two steps are completed, a candidate's application will be reviewed by the Admissions Committee in full. The final admission decision will take into consideration.

 

Performance in the PI (60% weight)

 

Graduation Scores & Class XII Scores (40% weight)

 

There is no exemption from the PI on any grounds.If you are made an offer of admission but do not have your graduation scores by then, you may confirm your place, but this will stand void if the graduation scores are not submitted before the commencement of the programme.

Note- All decisions made by the IMBA Admissions Committee are nal and binding.
